An event within the framework of TA-training series

Technology Transfer is a complicated business with multi-layer complexities and challenges. One of the key factors for a successful technology transfer operation is the ability to build a robust diverse pipeline of innovation. The technology transfer organization ability to engage faculty, researchers and students is a crucial part of the puzzle. In this workshop we will discuss this challenge from various perspectives (Fields of science, basic research, and local cultural aspects) and suggest some ways and strategies to deal with it.

Overview/Content of the event

The participants will learn some strategies and best practices to overcome the barriers that block researchers from participating in technology transfer activities and from collaborating with industry. We will discuss the need to develop faculty engagement, the different types of challenges, discuss the core incentives that may be relevant and add the multinational factor.

Learning goal

Understanding the challenge of faculty engagement and developing a set of tools/approaches to help achieve better engagement and communication.

Target group

The workshop is targeted to technology transfer practitioners (no prior knowledge needed).

Zoom will be used as the online platform. The access data will be provided in due time. Please be also aware that the seminar will be hold in English.


Speaker: Gil Granot-Mayer

Gil is the Acting Vice President of Technology Development and Innovation at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan. Prior to joining OIST in 2021, Gil served as the CEO of Yeda Research and Development Co. Ltd. – the technology transfer arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Gil co-chaired ITTN (the Israeli Tech-Transfer Organization) and served on the Academia-Industry Committee of the Israeli National Council of Research & Development. Gil is a member of 8400 - The Heath Network – a non-for-profit organization aimed to boost the heath-tech industry in Israel. In addition to these activities, Gil is advising governments and various for profit and non-for-profit organizations globally on various early stage investments, tech-transfer, business development  and startup ecosystem development. Gil holds an MBA and L.L.B. degrees from Tel Aviv University.
